why you should write for saving progress
For starters, we think we’ve got it going. Upon starting Saving Progress, members of staff decided that if we were going to become a publication of any sort, we would be a unique one. Within the video game journalism industry, there are far too many commonalities and we didn’t want to contribute to what we considered bad journalism. Most current video game publications follow the same trend of very methodically written reviews. Breaking a review down to analyse each aspect of a game creates poor flow within the article and is only serving to present the same information that wiki sites already do.

Our goal is to write entertaining reviews instead of describing the features of each game. We actually analyse the games and are critical of what they are. Our reviews give readers a better sense of what it’s actually like to experience the game and help them decide whether it’s a game they should spend their money on. We feel it’s important that this type of journalism is supported and need every possible writer to become a part of this cause.

why every single writer helps saving progress
Each writer who joins us increases the quantity of our already quality content. By increasing our output, we become more established around the Internet, build a better reputation, and thus, grow. Every single writer adds to our momentum which means more publishers are willing to send us free games, more writers want to join, and so forth.

    why you should want to write for saving progress
  • You’ll further develop your literary skills,
  • build on your portfolio for future opportunities;
  • establish (or increase) your presence in the video game community;
  • be part of a cause that aims to do something different and better;
  • make friends with a bunch of wisenheimers;
  • and give yourself something to do when you’re not playing video games.

still interested?
Good. What you need to do now is send us some email. What do you need to tell us? For one, tell us a bit about yourself. Your age, what you do for a living, or if you go to school. What kind of games you play and what consoles you own. Listing any past writing experience at all (doesn’t have to be video game related) is always a plus. As well, explain why you are interested in writing for Saving Progress.

The second thing you need to do is write at least one tryout review. First, read some of our reviews, and then when you have an idea of how we write, pick any game and review it. Remember to explain what it feels like to play the game and then analyse that. Don’t describe what you do throughout the game unless it’s necessary to your point. This tryout review is more to gauge your English proficiency and general knowledge of video games. Have fun with it and don’t fret — it doesn’t have to be perfect, it is more a means of introducing you to us.
