columns

As you can probably tell, we have quite a variety of columns, most of which came to fruition because we thought we needed a little focus on a specific topic. Each writer who has a column chose the overlying theme themselves; it’s either one that they’re interested in or something they’re passionate about. Some of these columns are weekly, some are bi-weekly, and some are monthly. However, the respective columns will always appear on the same day of the week that they’re due.

In Development

One day I will describe this column.

You will soon see other words here describing this column.

Hey! Link!
by Zvi Finklestein

Chances are, if you’re reading this, this isn’t the only video game website you visit. In fact, you probably get around a decent amount. Even still, Zvi probably does even more than you. He spends about two hours a day too much reading about video games. He digs deep into the furthest corners of the Internet, and absorbs all the information and opinion he can about the subject. In this column, you’ll find what he thinks was the best stuff written about video games from the week. This is something that plenty of gaming blogs do, yes, but we hope you’ll find some stuff here you wouldn’t elsewhere, thanks to his creepy little knack for the task.

Medium Relativity
by Michael Fox

A description will be here when I type it.

Mightier Pen
by Mike Ireland

Writing and games go together pretty well. Here you are on a website that focuses on writing about games. Some people are lucky enough to write for development teams. In this bi-weekly editorial, the author (and guests) will break down the writing within video games. Topics will include assessments of game plots (preemptive spoiler alert goes here), discussions of character development, dialogue, narrative structure, and examples of the balance writing strikes with the limitations of modern game design in your favorite titles.

XBLAh
by Jay Aphale

Your friendly Saving Progress writer Jay Aphale truly believes XBLA to be the best of the downloadable stores available from the three major consoles, due to both the quantity and quality of its selection. It’s the only place where you can get tons of old classic games (which are usually updated to add more features), as well as a variety of new games. So, he’s decided to dedicate his column to the Xbox Live Arcade, a service which has, so far, not disappointed him.

features

There really is no rhyme or reason to our feature posts. We write about whatever we want to write about, and it’s a given that sometimes they will address topics that don’t fit into any of our columns, and they definitely aren’t reviews of any kind. If you’re ever wondering why you’re reading an editorial post that doesn’t fit under any of the columns, it’s just because it’s such unique content that it belongs on its own. Maybe if a willing writer and a popular subject coincide, it’ll find its own home on Saving Progress, but for now, these are our feature posts.
